Chi-Hi grad killed in Eau Claire County crash

A 1991 graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School was killed early Friday morning when his vehicle went airborne and crashed.

Killed was Shaun D. Neary, 35, of S7860 Fox Point Trail in Eau Claire.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department said the crash at 1:06 a.m. happened on County T, 0.1 miles north of Venture Avenue, in the town of Union.

According to the sheriff’s department:

Neary was southbound on County T when his car failed to make a left-hand corner. The car left the road and hit a driveway approach. The car then went airborne.

Neary was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Conditions including speed, driver condition and vehicle equipment may have played roles in the crash, the sheriff’s department said.

His death is the first traffic fatality in Eau Claire County in 2009.

" I this is the location that I think it is...there has been several accidents and not the first death. When will they do something to make the corner more visable to drivers heading south. It is sad to hear about these young kids not wearing there seat belts and being ejected. Town of Union...please mark this curve in the road and maybe save a life. "

" First, let me express my sympathy for all the loved ones involved.
I have a 22 year old daughter that doesn't wear a seat belt. It drives me crazy. Many young people don't grasp the potential loss. Seat belts have been a factor in each of this new year traffic fatalities, for Chippewa and Eau Claire counties.
Forgive me if I seem insensitive, but THIS is the most urgent public health issue! "
