Foundation distributes $6,800 more in grants

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Chippewa County approved at their December meeting the distribution of 2008-2009 grants totaling $6,858.86.
Carol Gienapp, Executive Director of the Community Foundation, spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors, in expressing profound appreciation to the many generous and visionary donors who have created and/or donated to funds which support grant-making throughout all of Chippewa County.
“Thank you, ALL of you who give gifts through your Community Foundation,” she said. “Large or small — all are valued and are important in helping our County’s nonprofit organizations. Particularly in these times, their work in helping our friends and neighbors is more needed than ever before.”
Grants Committee chair, Peg Leinenkugel, reported on the Committee’s recommendation that the competitive grants from the following funds be distributed throughout Chippewa County:
- Fred R. Bowe Memorial Endowment Fund — for nature related endeavors — $689.01 for Angler “Ed-venture Expo,” to Communities United in Education, Inc. in Cornell/Lake Holcombe.
- Mary and Jerry Jacobson Family Endowment Fund — for Youth — $717.61 for Health Literacy to help parents understand and communicate their children’s health issues, to Literacy Volunteers of Chippewa Valley.
- Carey Kell Endowment Fund — for Beautification — $950 for Hanging Flower Baskets, to Chippewa Falls Main Street; and $218.77 for the Rose Garden, to the Chippewa Valley Rose Society.
- Harold D. “Mac” McDonald Endowment Fund — for Youth, Music, Veterans, History, Community Festivals — $501.08 for Dugout Roofs, to Stanley-Boyd Youth Softball and Baseball.
- Community Foundation Board Grant Fund — Unrestricted, for grant making at the discretion of the
- Foundation’s Board of Directors gave money to fulfill five needs. Feed My People received $750 for Weekend Kids’ Meals in Chippewa Falls, New Auburn and Bloomer. Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services received $1,500 for Family Smoke Detector Program. Rosebud & Friends received $900 for Dual Diagnosis Support Group. Chippewa County Historical Society received $500 for Chippewa County Historical Markers. Literacy Volunteers-Chippewa Valley received $132.39 for Health Literacy program for Parents.
In addition, Northwestern Bank has given 13 School Mini-grants for encouraging innovative, motivational or service learning activities for Chippewa County students in grades 3-8.
Schools receiving mini grants for projects are:
- Bloomer Middle School received $200 for its Windbreak & Beautification Project.
- Chippewa Falls Middle School received $200 for its “CUL8R Cyber bully” Project.
- Chippewa Falls Middle School received $50 for its 4 Rs (Read-Record-Rewind-Review).
- Chippewa Falls Middle School received $150 for its increasing fluency and comprehension project.
- Chippewa Falls Middle School received $200 for its Lost Boys Reading Group.
- Halmstad Elementary received $100 for POPS (Power of Positive Students).
- Cornell Elementary received $200 for a science and art fair.
- Parkview Elementary received $200 for Circle of Friends.
- Parkview Elementary received $200 for a grade 5 fieldtrip to science museum.
- Parkview Elementary received $200 for a book swap/reading and cooperation, a project for special education students.
- Southview Elementary received $200 for its butterfly garden beautification project.
- Lake Holcombe Elementary received $100 for “Hey, Al!” IMC Project.
- Lake Holcombe Elementary received $200 for its Older Students Motivating Younger project.
