- Breanne (Rowan) Kormendy received her master of physician assistant studies degree from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on Sept. 5, 2008, and commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. She is the daughter of Dennis Rowan and Lynn Rowan of Chippewa Falls and a 2000 alumni of McDonell Central High School. Breanne is stationed at Kelly Family Medicine Clinic in San Antonio, Texas.
- Navy Seaman Apprentice Ryan M. Braswell, son of Christine J. and Frank D. Braswell of Chippewa Falls recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Braswell is a 2008 graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School of Chippewa Falls.
- Army National Guard Pfc. Sarah M. Piepenburg has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Piepenburg is the daughter of Becky and stepfather of John Breene of Cadott. The private's uncle and aunt, Bruce and Pixie Mumford, reside in Litchfield, Minn. Piepenburg graduated in 1999 from Litchfield Senior High School, and received an associate degree in 2001 from Ridgewater College, Hutchinson, Minn.
- Kayla Dahl, the daughter of Dan and Debbie Dahl of Chippewa Falls, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in mathematics. She was nominated by her math teacher, Tony Reiter, at McDonell Central High School. Her grandparents are Phyllis Dahl of Chippewa Falls and the late LaVerne Dahl, and the late Mike and Jan Krejchi, formerly of Chippewa Falls.
- Army Reserve Sgt. Travis L. Englund is on duty at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-B). The task force is comprised of almost 600 U.S. military members and more than 650 U.S. and Honduran civilians who work in six different area units: the Joint Staff, the Army Forces, Air Force Forces, Joint Security Forces, the Medical Element, and the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, a helicopter unit. JTF-B units conduct military-to-military training, execute counter narco-trafficking operations, human trafficking deterrence, and engagement in civil affairs activities in conjunction with U.S. interagency partners. Englund, a unit supply sergeant, has served in the military for 13 years. He is the son of Georgia Carlson of Chippewa Falls, and Lee Englund of Kenosha. The reservist is a 1994 graduate of North High School in Eau Claire.
- Air Force Master Sgt. Paul T. Dunbar is currently deployed in Southwest Asia at a forward operating base assigned to a unit within the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing (AEW). The 386th AEW has a diverse mission of canvassing the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility.
As the primary aerial hub for Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 386th AEW also provides airlift support for Operation Enduring Freedom and the Horn of Africa. Air Force C-130 Hercules cargo/transport aircraft fly missions rotating Soldiers and Marines in and out of the deployed area of responsibility and move cargo to forward operating bases.
The wing is comprised of Airmen from the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and active duty Air Force. Many Airmen of the 386th AEW serve outside the wire with the wing's 586th Air Expeditionary Group. At the largest theater internment facility in Iraq, the Airmen provide security at the facility, security for convoys, and lead line-haul convoy missions to all forward operating bases throughout Iraq.
The 386th is also home to one of two contingency aeromedical staging facilities in the theater which serve as gateways for patients airlifted to Germany or the U.S. for further medical treatment.
The servicemember is normally assigned to the 354th Fighter Squadron, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Ariz.The sergeant is an aerospace medical service technician with 12 years of military service.He is the son of Thomas and Kathleen Dunbar of Colfax. His wife, Kristin, is the daughter of Bill and Susan Armstrong of Casa Grande, Ariz.
- Army Pfc. Kevin M. Burcham has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. Burcham earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Keith and Margaret Burcham of Colfax.
- Army Pvt. Joshua L. Faber has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Kevin and Wanda Faber of Cornell. Faber graduated in 2007 from Cadott High School.
- Navy Seaman Recruit Patrick N. Cofell, son of Gloria J. Schneider of Chippewa Falls and Lonnie T. Cofell of Gilby, N.D., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Cofell is a 2000 graduate of Memorial High School in Eau Claire.
- Army Pvt. Justin Kinderman has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Kinderman earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Terrie Kinderman of Chippewa Falls. Kinderman is a 2008 graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
