Who Makes Your Day?

Calling College Graduates!

Donate books to needy families

For the Herald

One of the great things of living in a small city such as Chippewa Falls is the feeling of community generated by yearly events sponsored by various groups in town. One such outstanding event is the annual “Spirit of Christmas” drive.

The Spirit of Christmas is an organization that provides Christmas gifts, food and clothing to needy families throughout Chippewa County.

The Friends of the Chippewa Falls Public Library are participating in a drive to add books to the holiday baskets of all of the people in the Spirit of Christmas program. The campaign is called “Give-A-Kid-A-Book.“

This campaign will help ensure that not a single child misses out on the headstart that comes from reading, or being read to, at a young age, and that every child gets to experience the special feeling of receiving his or her very own book. In addition, books help to extend the pleasure of reading to the adults in the household.

New books for children, teens and adults are needed. Some people may want to donate a copy of a book they treasured as a child. Perhaps others would rather tune in on today’s favorites. Groups and businesses may wish to donate books in their interest area such as art, nature studies or sports.

Or, the Friends will do the shopping if contributors prefer to make a monetary donation. Several individuals have already contributed generously to this year’s campaign.

Contributions should be dropped off at the Chippewa Falls Public Library, 105 W. Central St. by Monday, Dec. 1.

Help us make this holiday season the best ever for Chippewa County families in need by giving gifts that can be opened again and again — books.
