Holiday tea, home tour planned Dec. 6

English Lutheran Church of Bateman will be hosting their 37th annual Holiday Tea and Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 6. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with three homes to tour and a tea held at the church. During tea, there will be sales of raffle tickets, baked goods, and boutique items.

Something new this year is the Condiment Cupboard where homemade canned items, jams, jellies, and maple syrup can be purchased.

Tickets and maps for the Holiday Tea and Home Tour may be purchased at the church on Highway X between Chippewa Falls and Cadott or at any of the homes for $5.

The event is sponsored by the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and co-sponsored by Thrivent. Proceeds from the event will fund the mission of the church as well as a variety of community projects.

The three homes that have been decorated for the holiday season for you to enjoy are:

Bohland home

The home of Trevor and Heidi Bohland is at 5035 174th St. in Chippewa Falls.

Build in 2005, this young family’s home located close to Stillson Elementary School boasts warm, earth tone colored walls, unique floor and ceiling angles, beautiful maple cabinetry and doors, and birch wood floors. The deep burgundy foyer coordinates with the burgundy entry door and the deep blue siding of the house, and is in beautiful contrast with the light birch wood floor.

The living room with its cathedral ceiling, corner fireplace with Virginia slate stone façade, and openness to the kitchen and dining room gives the home a warm, inviting feeling. The fireplace’s slate stone façade matches that of the exterior of the home.

The kitchen has a uniquely angled ceiling with recessed lighting and maple cabinetry. The home also has three bedrooms and three bathrooms on the first floor. Two of the bedrooms have built in window seats under large windows.

The hall leading to the bedrooms has interesting angles which in turn allows each bedroom and bathroom off the hall to have corners that are not square. The master bedroom has a tray ceiling and is painted in a calming, neutral cream.

The master bathroom offers double sinks, a jacuzzi tub surrounded by cream colored ceramic tile. The home also has a finished lower level with a toy room, office, bathroom, guest bedroom and great room. In the corner of the great room is a slate stone fireplace in the same style as the one upstairs with an area above the fireplace for a television.

Gillig home

The home of Robert and Susan Gillig, 9836 162nd St., Chippewa Falls, is a spacious and newly constructed condominium overlooking Lake Wissota Golf Course. The first floor offers a light, airy feel which is in contrast with the lower level and its rustic look. There are many antique pieces in the home some of which have been converted into a more practical piece of furniture.

As you enter the home, you are immediately greeted with bright, cheery yellow walls and crisp white trim. The front sitting room has white trimmed French doors, lime green walls, a beautiful white bookcase wall unit with wainscoting accents, and pastel colored furniture.

In this room is one of the several interesting chandeliers that you will see in the home. This particular chandelier has delicate pink flowers.

Past the sitting room is a bathroom that has an antique dresser that has been converted into a bathroom sink and vanity. There is a large soaking tub that has white wainscoting around the base to coordinate with the same theme found in the sitting room.

The living room has cathedral ceiling and is open to a large floor to ceiling window and patio door. The white, airy curtains over the windows help to frame the beautiful view overlooking the golf course and pond.  The view can be enjoyed from the house or from a large deck off the patio door.

In the corner next to the large window is a beautiful fieldstone fireplace. The kitchen continues the crisp, clean feel of the home with white cabinets that have a wainscoting design. The granite countertop is a lighter colored granite that has a nice mix of browns, tans, and creams. The kitchen is a mix of modern and old with its stainless steel appliances and antique kitchen table.

The master bedroom walls are painted a vibrant peach color and hosts several antiques: dresser, headboard, marble topped bedside table, and rocker. The master bathroom is unique in that there is a door which separates the double sink and vanity from the shower and toilet.

The basement is fully finished with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a great room, and a fieldstone fireplace. Patio doors off of the great room lead out onto the yard. Three interesting antiques found here are a ship captain’s desk that has been converted to a small writing desk, a buckboard (a stagecoach bench), and a serving buffet that has been converted into a bathroom sink and vanity.

Polzin home

The home of John and Sandi Polzin, 22175 County Hwy O, Cadott, was completed in May and featured in the Parade of Homes last summer. This unique home is an environmentally friendly home that has a southwestern, industrial feel. Reclaimed tin and lumber are used on the exterior and interior of the home, and a geothermal heat pump heats the home through radiant floor heat.

The home was designed and built by the owners, who also own Down to Earth nursery.  The home is located past the nursery, nestled back along the woods. The themes they wove throughout the home are a feel of “days gone by feel” and the other being “a home where the outdoors is indoors.”

Sprinkled throughout the home are antique wall hangings and knick knacks. The front foyer allows a look at the interior of the home and of a spacious, open feeling created as a result of the nine foot ceilings.

There are many unique features of the home. All of the walls are in a variety of different earth tones, have rounded corners, and are made through a process called variance plastering. This labor intensive procedure creates a warm, suede like appearance.

One of the walls in the master bedroom was buffed after the troweling of the plaster was done which gives the wall a smoothness and sheen. The flooring throughout the home and garage is poured and stained concrete. There are different zones in the home that can be regulated so that certain parts of the radiant floor can be heated at different temperatures.

All of the bathroom and kitchen countertops as well as the breakfast nook just off the kitchen are made out of poured concrete which add to the earthy look of the home. In addition, refurbished farmhouse sinks are used in the kitchen and master bathroom.

The cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms was intentionally designed to have something new look old or old fashioned. To keep with this theme, there is horse barn door made of distressed white wood that is used as a sliding door to hide the furnace room.

Off of the living room, the master bedroom, and guest room is a four season porch with three large doors that are similar to garage doors but have glass panes instead of wooden panes. The large amount of windows allows a beautiful view of the wooded area behind the house complete with a small waterfall and outdoor cooking area.

The home does not have a basement, but the large garage makes up for any space lost. The garage is completely finished and even has a bathroom. Running the entire length of the garage is a bonus room which is very similar to loft.

From the garage, you will then enter the pantry, laundry room and finally the large kitchen. The kitchen is a cook’s dream as there is a double stainless steel convection oven and double stainless steel refrigerator.
