Learn to decorate cakes, use eBay, dance

Voyagers Community Education is holding adult community education classes this winter.

To register for classes, visit cfsd.chipfalls.k12.wi.us/depts/dw/voyagers/AdultEducation/AdultEd.htm or go to the Korger-Chestnut Building, 140 W. Elm St., Chippewa Falls.

Dancing lessons

Level 1 beginning ballroom and swing dancing is designed for the beginning student, this course will develop timing, as well as leading and following skills as students learn a variety of patterns in swing and waltz.

Level 2 ballroom, Latin and swing dancing is designed for the student who has completed at least one Level 1 course or has previous dance experience. Waltz, foxtrot, swing or rumba will be taught as determined by participants.

Level 1 is 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Mondays, Nov. 24, Dec. 1, 8, 15. Level 2 is 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. on those days. Both classes are at Parkview Elementary School in Chippewa Falls.

Dave and Karen Goggin, Goggin Ballroom Dancing, will instruct.

Partners aren’t necessary. Register by Wednesday, Nov. 19. Class fee is $45.

Cake decorating

In this class you will learn basic techniques to frost and decorate a cake. Proper use of a pastry bag, making a border and simple fondant decorations will be covered. A 6-inch, 2-layer cake will be provided for you to decorate and take home as well as a decorating starter kit.

The class is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Dec. 16 and Jan. 20 in room 512 of Chippewa Falls Middle School. Class fee is $35. Register by Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Instructor is Staci Cushman, Fancy Cakes by Staci.

Scarves and handbags to ‘dye’ for

Come let your creative side express itself by playing with color using a free flowing wet-on-wet technique. Leave with your own hand painted silk scarf valued at $45 in fashion catalogs and a painted handbag. Wear old clothes or bring a leak-proof apron to class.

The class is 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Wednesday, Dec. 3 in room 514 of the Chippewa Falls Middle School. Class fee is $30.

Register by Thursday, Nov. 20. Instructor will be Karen Scarseth.

Bake and take

Sign up for this activity if you’re a busy person, but still love to provide your family and friends with the favorites of the season. Take home 14 dozen assorted holiday cookies and treats after just one night of baking. Enough cookies to give as gifts and bring some out as you need them during the holidays. All the goodies are freezer-friendly.

Get your friends and family to come with you and make it a night of conversation and fun! The best quality ingredients are pre-measured and ready for you when you get there. Bring a large container to carry your treats home. Class size is limited to 14. Ruth Buchner will lead.

The class is 5 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10 or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 in room 106 of Chippewa Falls Senior High School. Class fee is $60. Register by Monday, Dec. 1.

Introduction to eBay

You’ve heard about eBay, now lets see what it’s all about. This class will show you how to find and buy items on eBay as well as how to sell your items on eBay. The class is designed for the novice. You will need basic computer skills. Thomas Etmund will instruct.

The class is 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 in room 410 of the Chippewa Falls Middle School. Class fee is $10. Register by Monday, Jan. 19.

Sewing basics

Students should bring 1/2 yard each of two coordinating fabrics and thread to begin constructing a reversible tote bag during the first session. Use of the sewing machine, commercial patterns, and fabrics will be covered during the course. Students may choose to begin a project of their choice or to alter or restyle an existing garment during the second and third sessions. Class instructor will be Lois Paquette.

The three-session class is 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 6, 13 and 20, in room 508 of the Chippewa Falls Middle School. Class fee is $20. Register by Monday, Dec. 22.

Releasing old patterns to create new awareness

Many chronic physical problems have an emotional component, which the body holds in its subconscious. Therapeutic essential oils formulas and effective techniques like “Emotional Freedom Technique” are important considerations in releasing these patterns. The workshop identifies several essential oils to benefit emotional well-being and offer a higher spiritual awareness.

Included in the fee are two personalized blends, essential oils, supplies and handouts. Workshop is presented by Joyce Sobotta, certified aromatherapy, educator, and certified reflexologist.

The class is 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in the Chippewa Falls Senior High School library. Class fee is $20. Register by Friday, Jan. 16.

YCC Microsoft Windows

In this hands-on session you will learn about Windows on a personal computer. Topics include using the basic features of Microsoft, basic computer terminology, how to use the mouse, customizing your desktop, and saving and organizing your files. No prior computer knowledge or experience is required to attend.

The class is led by student instructors participating in Youth Connecting Communities (YCC), a part of the Voyager Community Learning Center after-school program.

The class is 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 24 in room 538 of the Chippewa Falls Senior High School. The class is free, but register by Tuesday, Jan. 20.
