Shell Lake's Gronning unstoppable in Gilman

GILMAN — Gilman got a good look at Shell Lake’s Luke Gronning.

Unfortunately for the Pirates and their faithful, he had touchdown runs of 2, 38, 39 and 5 yards as he finished with 264 yards on 34 carries. Shell Lake won, 27-6, on Saturday.

“We had everything geared up to stop Gronning,” Gilman coach Robin Rosemeyer said. “We were ready for him to run right or run left. Their line blocked well for him and he played well.”

Shell Lake had 291 yards of total offense — all on the ground — making Gronning’s 264 yards a lot more impressive.

What also aided the Lakers were a pair of stalled drives deep in their territory by Gilman. The Pirates had the ball inside the 15-yard line in the second half and inside the 10-yard line in the first half, but didn’t have any points to show for it.

Dustan Zach caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Shawn Hoehn, trimming Shell Lake’s lead to eight points in the fourth quarter. However, Gronning scored a 39-yard touchdown run to add more cushion to the lead.
