Want football brackets? They're here




Nine high school football teams from Chippewa and Dunn counties punched their tickets for the upcoming WIAA playoffs and know who their next foe is.

The WIAA released its football pairings to the media Friday via e-mail. Here are the brackets (Editor's note: Updated versions for divisions 3, 4, and 6 were completed by the WIAA following our initial story. Click below for updated brackets):

Division 6

Division 7

Chippewa Falls completed back-to-back undefeated regular seasons Thursday night and earned a top seed in the Division 1 playoffs. The Cardinals (9-0) host Bay Port (7-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dorais Field.

Menomonie is in Division 2 and has a home game against Merrill at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Stadium.

McDonell’s berth in the playoffs is in Division 7. The Macks face Frederic at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Frederic.

Bloomer comes into the playoffs on a two-game losing streak. The Blackhawks will take on St. Croix Falls in a Division 4 game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Croix Falls.

Stanley-Boyd finished the season 8-1 and is in Division 5. The Orioles face Loyal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Park in Stanley.

Elk Mound qualified for the playoffs and will take on Chetek in Division 5 at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chetek.

New Auburn qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2001. The Trojans are paired up against Gilman at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gilman in a Division 7 contest.

Thorp kept Owen-Withee from claiming a share of the Cloverwood title Thursday night with an overtime victory. The Cardinals are in Division 7 and play Hurley at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Thorp.

" The Cardinals' run to state should be an easy start, especially at home. Then it's four wins to the gold ball. Roll on! Too bad the Macks have another long road trip, but that may be just what they need to keep the winning streak going. "
