EAU CLAIRE — Carl J. Peterson, 96, of Oakwood Hills Retirement, formerly of 6610 Burnell Dr., town of Seymour, died, Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the comforting Angelspace Holistic Care Facility in Eau Claire.
He was born Feb. 2, 1912, to John and Augusta (Moline) Peterson in the township of Hallie, Chippewa Falls.
He lived his whole life as a dairy farmer. He took over his father’s farm while still in the sixth grade to support his mother, brothers, sisters and his ill father.
He married Ernestine Anna Tittel, May 15, 1938, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. They purchased a connecting farm and it’s 160 acres in the township of Seymour, Eau Claire County. In 1971 they sold much of the property and farm buildings, keeping the house and some acreage. After 56 years of marriage his beloved “Till” died, July 24, 1993. Through all this time he continued to work on the farm for Leonard Peck, whom he had sold the property to, until his retirement in 2003 at the age of 91 years young.
He lived on his own with his beloved Pomeranian dogs all these years. He moved to Oakwood Hills Retirement in December 2004 where he resided with his companion “Boots” until his death. His Oakwood Hills “family” will truly miss them both. Boots has found a new home already.
Carl loved to work outdoors, cutting wood, helping the neighbors, mowing lawn, etc. He loved to go for rides viewing the crops, stopping to visit friends and neighbors. He was the kind of neighbor everyone wishes they had, always there when they needed him. You didn’t see Carl without his companion Pomeranian on his lap. A sweet treat at the end of the day was the way to live and he never returned home or finished a meal without a meat-treat for his Boots.
Carl was a 6 foot Swede who married a 5 foot German. They survived the depression and through the many ups and downs of farm life, produced 7 kids, 19 grandkids and 26 great-grandchildren. No one could make him smile like his grandkids.
He is survived by: his four daughters, Cary Ann Johnson and Margaret Peterson, both of Eau Claire, Virginia Peterson of Menomonie and Donna (Don) Whiting of Scottsdale, Ariz; two sons, John E. (Leanne) Peterson of Eau Claire and Ronald (Sharon) Peterson of Janesville; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife Ernestine (Till); daughter Patsy; sisters, Alida Link and Violet Olson; and brothers, Martin and G. Woodrow Peterson.
“Yah, Yah” as Carl would say. God Bless you on your way home.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Kathy Larson, Chaplain, of Northwest Wisconsin Homecare and Rev. Howard Fehr officiating.
Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, and Monday until the time of the service at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel.
