FALL CREEK — McDonell’s volleyball team earned a runner-up finish at the Fall Creek Invitational Saturday, and got a little preview of what’s to come ahead this week, too.
The Macks went 3-1-2 in the round robin tournament, with the loss coming against Tuesday’s West Cloverbelt Conference foe, Eau Claire Regis.
“I think it’s a good thing (we played them),” McDonell coach Kat Roesler said. “Even though we lost, we learned some things about ourselves and learned some things about Regis.”
The Ramblers and Macks last met at the season-opening Diocesan Tournament hosted by McDonell. Since then, both schools have played well with McDonell needing a win against Regis to earn a share of the league’s title, which would be the Macks fourth in a row.
McDonell got the job done without one of their big hitters, Christi Schoch, and with another in a limited role. Brittney Sloan played some, but was not at 100 percent.
Despite her injury, Sloan led the team with 26 kills and was the co-leader with Breanna Jenneman in block kills with six. Jenneman had 21 kills and Ashley Zumbrock had 19.
Karley Weinsch set the offense in motion with 107 assists and served five aces.
Mollie Meagher led the Macks with 70 digs while Leisha Brzozowski and Sam Schemenauer had 48 digs each.

Chi-Hi wins six-team invite
In Wisconsin Rapids, The Cardinals took home the gold at the Wisconsin Rapids Invite on Saturday with a 1-1 tie against D.C. Everest and a 4-0 win over La Crosse Logan.
The team won the event because of the tie-breaker, which granted the championship to the team with the best goal differential. Chi-Hi (7-9-2) got it by one goal, making Austin Shelby’s score just before the end of the Logan game the difference.
Coach Ben Goeman said play from non-regulars were key in the games.
“Guys who don’t play much got in there and made a lot of contributions,” he said. “They’re making progress and making our starters better.”
He listed off Kyle Herbenson, Jack Nelson and Kevin Lambrecht, to name a few.
Lambrecht had a goal at the 60-minute mark of the Logan game, with the assist coming from Nelson. Shelby and Chris Facklam had the other scores, with Facklam sending in a pair.
Tye Kreutzfeldt had two assists in the game while Chris Schnobrich also tallied one.
The first game saw D.C. Everest score at the 60-minute mark, but the Cards struck back 10 minutes later. Charlie Zubal found net with Kreutzfeldt assisting.
The goal came after Zubal caught D.C. Everest off guard by doing a quick direct kick. Kreutzfeldt then fed Zubal the rebound.
Goeman said the invite win is momentum from the 2-2 tie against Eau Claire North on Thursday.
“The attitude has changed the last couple weeks,” he said. “We believe we can go out and compete.”
McDonell/Regis 5, Osceola 2
McDonell/Regis 4, Delano, Minn. 1
At Casper Park, the Macks had yet another doubleheader this season, but scoring goals with tired legs was not a problem.
Cory Arneson scored twice with one goal each from Grant Mickesh, Luke Roth and Will Schifeling in the 5-2 defeat of Osceola. Marc Santolin and Roth each had an assist.
Arneson had two more goals against Delano with Roth and Santolin each had one goal. Mickesh, Santolin and Roth each had an assist.
