Name released of child killed by vehicle

LAKE HALLIE — A 16-month-old girl was killed Wednesday morning after she was run over by a vehicle.

At about 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, Erin Scholtes had wandered out of her house unknowingly to her mother, while her mother was backing out of her garage at 13495 43rd Ave. in the Village of Lake Hallie. The girl ran behind the vehicle in the driveway and was backed over.

A family member and emergency personnel administered CPR on the scene.

Scholtes was taken to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire in critical condition. Hospital staff attempted to save the child, but she later died from her injuries.

The Lake Hallie Police Department is conducting an investigation into the accident.
