Fond du lac man linked to city burglary

A Fond du Lac man is facing multiple charges connected with an Aug. 6 burglary at a Chippewa Falls apartment.

Stephen J. Franze, 31, has been charged with burglary, criminal damage to property, theft, two counts each of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card, and two counts of obstruction.

On Aug. 6, Sharon A. Ressler, 45, reported that the screen had been cut at her Dutchman Court apartment and someone had apparently entered and stolen a wallet, cash and valuable coins. Her debit card was later used at a Kwik Trip to purchase gas. Video surveillance of the Kwik Trip at the time of the purchase showed a vehicle identified through a plate number as belonging to a girlfriend of Franze, who provided information that linked Franze to the burglary. Franze fled on foot when officers went to arrest him, but was apprehended. He is being held on a probation hold from Fond du Lac County, where he is also facing burglary charges.

" I am not laughing at what happened to Sharon, but HA HA HA on the thief using it at Kwik Trip. Are people really that dumb? I guess you must be if you're stealing things. "
