A Chippewa Falls man is facing felony charges after throwing a knife and stabbing a young man who had been wrapped in duct tape.
Matthew J. Willi, 46, 109 Chippewa Street, was celebrating his wedding when the incident took place, which resulted in Willi being arrested the next day.
He has been charged with second degree reckless endangerment and negligent handling of a weapon.
According to the criminal complaint:
The victim was at the wedding reception with some 17-year-old friends, and with Willi’s son. The two youths played around with wooden swords, which split at one point.
One of the friends as a joke wrapped the victim’s upper body, from his chest to his navel, in duct tape and someone commented he looked like a piñata.
Matthew Willi wanted to hit him like a piñata with one of the pieces of wooden sword, but the others wouldn’t give it to him for that purpose.
Willi then allegedly went into the house and came out with a handful of knives, one of which he threw at the victim. The knife hit the victim, causing him to bleed from a stab wound in the upper chest.
Willi is to appear in court today.
