Prep roundup: Cardinals, Hornets grounded at invite

EAU CLAIRE — The boys and girls squads from both Chippewa Falls and Cadott found themselves in the bottom halves of the Husky Invite standings Saturday in Eau Claire.
Chi-Hi’s boys team took 11th out of 14 while Cadott’s was 13th. The boys race was won by La Crosse Logan.
Of 13 girls teams, Chi-Hi placed 10th and Cadott 13th. The girls race was won by Hudson.
Kyle Salmonson was the top Cardinal runner in 48th place on an 18:33 time. The team racked up 275 points.
Cadott totaled 307, with Josiah Yeager leading the way in 18:14. He placed 37th.
Bobby Glotfelty of La Crosse Logan was the invite champ on a 15:57 time.
For the girls side, Cardinal Megan Schnobrich took 17th. Her 16:23 time helped the team get 228 points.
Jennifer Greene was Cadott’s leader with a 18:27 race that took 93rd place. The Hornets had 422 points.
Menomonie’s Jordan Kelch was fastest female at 15:26.

At Casper Park, the Macks played against a couple of larger schools and ended the day with win and a tie Saturday.
Cory Arneson and Will Schifeling each had a goal and an assist. Luke Roth nearly had the difference-maker, but was called for hitting the ball with his arm.
“I felt in my heart we controlled the game, but our shooting was not finding the net,” Macks coach Tim Jenneman said.
McDonell/Regis came back from a 2-0 deficit in the contest.
Osceola got out to a 2-0 lead as well, but Schifeling passed to Arneson for a goal before halftime. Schifeling scored two more goals from passes from Luke Roth to earn the victory.
Volleyball
Macks fourth at Aquinas tournament
In La Crosse, the McDonell volleyball team had to fight back from deficits a number of times, and came away with a fourth place finish Saturday.
“There were games where we had substantial leads and they came back or they had leads and we came back,” McDonell coach Kat Roesler said. “We’re still working on the mental part of the game.”
The Macks finished second in the their pool, defeating Holmen and Independence while losing to Caledonia. In the gold bracket of the tournament, McDonell (7-6) lost to La Crosse Central and La Crosse Aquinas.
Breanna Jenneman, Brittney Sloan and Christi Schoch each had seven block kills. Schoch also had 38 kills to lead the team followed by Chrysta Brinkman with 22, Ashley Zumbrock and Sloan with 16 each.
Mollie Meagher had 38 digs while Leisha Brzozowski and Karley Weinsch had 29 each. Weinsch also had 100 assists.
