Gertrude M. Jasper


Gertrude M. Jasper, 99, of 506 Island St., Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls.

She was born May 19, 1909, in Lebanon, the daughter of Matthew and Alice (Quigley) Martin.

She married Edward C. Jasper on June 7, 1934, at St. Peter’s Church, Tilden.

Prior to that, she taught a one-room country school in Chippewa County and later spent many years actively involved in planning and coordinating various parish activities at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

She was also a Charter member of the Secular Franciscans in Chippewa Falls and a member of St. Charles Church.

She is survived by: two sons, Gerald (Mavis) of Chippewa Falls and Robert of Rice Lake; one daughter-in-law Peggy Jasper of Norristown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Edward; one son Donald; her parents; five brothers, Clifford, Edward, Frank, James and William Martin; one sister Bernadine “Bunnie” Smetana; and one grandson Mark Jasper.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at St. Charles Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. William Felix will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, and until 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. The Ladies of St. Charles in conjunction with the Secular Franciscans will recite the rosary at 4 p.m. and there will be a Christian Vigil Service at 5 p.m. both Sunday at the funeral home.
