Stout names director of multicultural services

The University of Wisconsin-Stout has hired Freddie J. Walker as its new director of Multicultural Student Services. Walker will start Monday, Aug. 11.

Walker most recently was the associate director of Multicultural Student Services at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

He has worked in the area of multicultural student services and minority programming at St. Cloud for the past 16 years. Walker also was an officer in the U.S. Army for 12 years and has served as an ROTC instructor.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University, and a doctoral degree in education from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Interventional cardiologist joins clinic staff

Interventional Cardiologist Ralph Fitz, M.D., has joined Marshfield Clinic Eau Claire Center.

Prior to joining Marshfield Clinic, Fitz worked for a private practice cardiology group in Pennsylvania. While there, he was active in all aspects of cardiology including teaching and clinical research in addition to private practice.

Fitz earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and his medical degree from Tulane University-School of Medicine, New Orleans. He served his internship and residency at University of Connecticut Health Center. He served a fellowship in cardiology at Medical College of Virginia.

Charter Bank reaches $500 million mark

Charter Bank has reached $500 million in assets. There are less than 40 banks statewide which have attained this benchmark.

In recognition of this accomplishment, Charter Bank has committed to a 100% increase in its annual contribution to five area non-profits; Feed My People, Community Table, St. Francis Food Pantry, Hope Gospel Mission, and Salvation Army. Charter Bank’s 2008 support for these non-profits will now be $28,000.

In the last 5 years alone Charter Bank has, through donations to non-profits and the Bank’s scholarship program, donated over $500,000 to the community.

Charter Bank is a community bank with one location at 1010 W. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire and is the largest bank in the Chippewa Valley.
