New laser increases efficiency at ALM

Mark Gunderman / The Chippewa Herald

Some new equipment is increasing efficiency at Advanced Laser Machining, 600 Cashman Drive, Chippewa Falls.

Last week, the company installed a new 600 watt CNC laser from Trumpf Manufacturing, a German company that is the leader in the field.

“It’s the top of the line,” said CEO John Shuler.

It’s not as if this is the first piece of high technology equipment – or the first laser – the company has installed. Advanced Laser Machining specializes in sheet metal fabrication for the defense, aerospace and transportation industries and makes frequent use of such equipment. The new Trumph laser, though, raises the bar.

“This will enable us to increase precision accuracy and cost effectiveness for our clients,” Schuler said. “We can load up to 20 sheets of material on it and let it run.”

Schuler said the customer benefits are speed of order and lower price.

The new equipment represents a $1 million investment for the company, Schuler said. The company continues to invest in new equipment. In May 2007, Advanced Laser Machining invested in a Salvagnini compact panel bender.

Advanced Laser Machining is owned by John Walton and Ron Tegels, who won the Eau Claire Economic Development Corporation’s Create Your Own Business Plan in 1996.

The company has grown steadily, opening at its current facility in 1998 and doubling its manufacturing and office space in 2004.

The company was recently named one of the top 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the United States based on growth percentage in net sales by Inc. magazine.
