Kathryn O. Matson




Kathryn O. Matson, 91, of 222 Chapman Rd., Chippewa Falls, formerly of the town of Lafayette, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home, Chippewa Falls.

She was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Richland Township, Richland County, to Bertha (Cunningham) and Oscar Dalberg. She grew up in Richland County and attended Hanson School. She graduated from Blue River High School in 1933.

Kathryn married Arthur Hanold Sr. on Aug. 6, 1934. They resided in Stanley where they owned and operated Hanold’s Grocery Store for 15 years. She then worked at the lunch counter at Woolworth’s in Chippewa Falls for 23 years.

She married Edwin Matson on Dec. 11, 1965, at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman. He preceded her in death in 1976. She became a resident of the Chippewa Manor Retirement Community in 2000.

Kathryn loved to fish, bowl, snowmobile, cook, but especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by: a daughter, Donna Kay (Robert) Potter of Florence, Ariz.; a son, Arthur Duane (Linda) Hanold of Chippewa Falls and The Villages, Fla.; a sister, Selma Vranek of Muscoda; two grandchildren, Renee Malm of Houston, Texas and Kevin (Sharon) Potter of Albuquerque, N.M.; her special friend, Luella Benson of the Chippewa Manor; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Edwin; two sisters, Bessie and Harriet; and three brothers, William, Francis and Virgil.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Chippewa Manor Chapel of the Resurrection with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the Chippewa Manor Chapel.
