Court orders defendant to stay out of Stanley

A man accused of pointing a shotgun at a woman’s head during a domestic dispute is being held on $20,000 cash bail after continuing to have contact with the woman after his initial release.

Shawn R. Walters, 23, 36065 County X, has been charged with false imprisonment, pointing a firearm at another person as well as misdemeanor domestic battery. In a separate complaint, he is charged with eight counts of bond jumping.

If Walters does come up with that much cash, he would be released only under the condition that he stay out of Stanley and away from the victim.

According to the criminal complaint:

On July 21, law enforcement responded to the Walters residence for a woman reporting being physically assaulted by her boyfriend. She said Walters tried to take away her phone, held her down, choked her, punched her in the face and body and kicked her several times.

He then grabbed a shotgun, cycled the pump action and pointed it at her head. The woman reported she began to scream very loudly and hysterically. Walters put the gun away and continued to beat her, the complaint states.

Walters was arrested and released on a $1,000 signature bond under the condition he have no contact with the woman.

On July 28, Walters allegedly went to where the woman works and asked her to call him. He was taken into custody for bail jumping, booked and released.

On July 30, the woman reported Walters had called her several times that day, leaving messages that he was sorry and loved her. On the last call, she spoke with him and he said he would slit her throat.

Walters was arrested again and on Aug. 4, Judge Steven Cray set a $20,000 cash bond. He would be allowed in Stanley only if is passing through on Highway 29.

Walters was scheduled to make an initial appearance Tuesday, but it was postponed to Sept. 9.
