Two in custody for sexual assault

MENOMONIE — A woman who met two men at a Chippewa County bar Sunday was allegedly sexually assaulted by them at a Dunn County residence later, according to law enforcement sources.

Now Mark D. Monson, 33, and Anthony E. Kurtz, 44, who were arrested after a SWAT team response, are expected to appear for a bond hearing in Dunn County Court Tuesday.

They face potential charges of first degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.

The woman reported late Sunday afternoon that she had been forced into a residence in the town of Sand Creek and sexually assaulted, according to the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department. The woman was taken to Red Cedar Medical Center and later released.

Officers responded to N12605 780th St., and found the men uncooperative and threatening. Additional officers from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol were called for assistance.

At least one man held SWAT team officers at bay Sunday for four hours, according to the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department.

Monson and Kurtz appeared in Dunn County Court Monday, but a bond hearing was postponed to Tuesday.

The Associated Press and the Dunn County News contributed to this story.
