For now, the fields are set for the November election for Congress, Assembly and district attorney. The deadline for nomination papers for the posts was Tuesday.
But the field may change in the 67th Assembly District, where incumbent Jeff Wood announced Tuesday he was switching from being a Republican to an independent.
Wood, whose address is 435 21 1/2 St. in Chetek, will be challenged by Libertarian Andrew McKenzie, 464 W. Spruce St., Chippewa Falls.
But the possibility still exists Republicans and Democrats can still field candidates. State Rep. Terry Moulton said the process involves getting write-in votes during the September primary that exceeds a percentage of votes from the last election for governor.
State statutes require a candidate to receive at least five percent of the votes of that party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last election, according to County Clerk Kathy Bernier.
Primaries are required in September for all partisan offices, even if there is only one candidate that files nomination papers in each party.
In the neighboring 68th District, incumbent Moulton, whose address is 980 118th St., Chippewa Falls, is seeking re-election.
Two Democrats have filed to challenge Moulton. Candidate Michael A. Turner of 615 Chauncey St. unsuccessfully challenged Moulton in 2006. He faces Kristen Dexter of 7410 Lakeview Drive, Eau Claire, a former Altoona School Board member. The September primary will determine which Democrat will challenge Moulton.
The race for the 69th District is a rematch from 2006. Tim Swiggum of 739 E. 7th St., Owen is running as a Democrat and will take on incumbent Republican state Rep. Scott Suder, 102 S. Fourth Ave., Abbotsford.
For 7th District Congress, incumbent Democrat David R. Obey of 1212 Grand Avenue. No. 32, Wausau, is being challenged by Republican Dan Mielke, 2550 County II, Rudolph.
Obey is the chairman of the Appropriations Committee in the House.
Mielke is a farmer and father of three adult children. He was one of the founders of the Midwest Organic Services Association, which certifies more than 1,000 organic farmers and processing plants throughout the country.
In the race for Chippewa County district attorney, incumbent Republican Jon M. Theisen of of Chippewa Falls is challenged by Democrat Holly Wood Webster of Eau Claire.
