Who Makes Your Day?

Calling College Graduates!

Fedie, Steiger, Reed, Kraus honored

For the Herald

The Chippewa Falls Senior High School English Department is pleased to announce its English students of the month for May.

Freshman Allison Fedie, the daughter of Donald and Judy Fedie, was chosen by her English teacher, Sharon Daniels.

“Allison Fedie has demonstrated a strong work ethic and positive attitude throughout the year while always modeling kindness and consideration to me and her peers,” Daniel said. “A quiet student, Allison’s respectful actions speak loudly. She enjoys reading, willingly participates in discussions, and writes with flair. It is a pleasure to honor such a responsible, reliable and resourceful student as Allison with this reward.”

Allison’s interests include playing violin, drawing house plans, tennis, and Destination Imagination. She is an active member of Voyagers, where she gives violin lessons to middle school students.

Allison plans to attend the University of Minnesota for Architectural Design. Her goal is to become an architect.

Freshman Emily Steiger, the daughter of Geoffrey and Melissa Steiger, was chosen by her English teacher, Stephen Wisner.

“No matter what the assignment, you can count on Emily to do it as well as it can be done. She does not believe in doing things halfway or even seven-eighths of the way. Couple her solid work ethic with a curious and strong intellect, and you have the complete student that Emily represents. I have faith in Emily as a student and a citizen. She is the kind of student that Chippewa Falls can be proud to claim as its own.”

Emily’s Chi-Hi activities include playing the clarinet in band, playing volleyball, coaching figure skating and volleyball, and editing for Winding River Review. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, and being outdoors.

Emily would like to pursue a career as a novelist or become a teacher. She plans to attend a four-year college in Wisconsin.

Freshman Sara Reed, the daughter of Bill and Robin Reed, was chosen by her English teacher, Roger Skifstad.

“I’ve chosen Sara for a variety of reasons to be my English Student of the Month,” Skifstad said. “Sara is one of my top students in English 9. She is a very good reader, writer, and class participant. Beyond that I enjoy talking with Sara every morning before school begins. Sara comes early to class to work or just talk about her life. She will have a big impact on Chi-Hi over the next three years both in her academic life and her athletic pursuits. I feel very fortunate to have had Sara in my class this year!”

Sara enjoys spending time with her family. She likes to watch her brother Justin play hockey and her sister Abbie play softball. Sara is very active with the Chi-Hi JV softball team and travel-ball. She loves family trips and spending time with her friends.

She is a member of Zion United Methodist Church and loves being involved with the youth group.

Sara plans to attend UW-Eau Claire and earn a science degree. Her goal is to become a high school science teacher.

Senior Veronica Kraus, the daughter of Jeff and Pamela Kraus, was chosen by her English teacher, Molly Nowlan.

“Veronica is an extremely poised and smart student,” Nowlan said. “She has a worldliness that is rare in young people, and an intense appreciation for literature, film and other arts. It has been inspiring to watch Veronica progress as a writer in the years that I have known her.

“Her autobiography in tenth grade was witty, creative and showed her unique voice, but her critical pieces this year in World Lit have demonstrated the tone of a professional writer: well researched, insightful, and extremely tightly written. Veronica’s intellectual tenacity, her awareness of global issues and her compassion for people are impressive and refreshing. I look forward to hearing about her future accomplishments and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.”

Veronica enjoys art and music, including guitar, piano and violin. She also loves biking, kayaking, politics, reading, writing and learning. She’s volunteered and interned for several political campaigns and is a member of American Club, Student Council, Class Officer, and National English Honor Society.

Veronica plans to attend the University of Minnesota. She wants to major in graphic design and photography.
