Post 77 finishes in Battle of Omaha final four




OMAHA — Chippewa Falls American Legion Post 77 reached the semifinals of the Battle of Omaha before bowing out last weekend.

Post 77 won its pool by defeating Reagan Buick, Lincoln (Neb.), Olathe (Kan.) East and St. Louis (Mo.) Blazers and having a loss to San Antonio no. 1. Post 77 started the tournament with a 6-2 loss to San Antonio. Chippewa then beat Reagan Buick, 11-2; Lincoln, 8-2; Olathe East, 5-0; and St. Louis, 6-1.

Post 77 was paired off against the San Antonio Wranglers and lost, 7-1. The Wranglers went on to win the tournament by defeating the Fort Collins (Colo.) Lobos.

Junior Legion

The Junior Post 77 team also was in a tournament, but in Sparta. Chippewa Falls won the tournament by beating Prairie du Chien, 10-3.

Post 77 began the tournament with a win against Sparta, 7-3 followed by wins against Hudson, 12-4, in five innings and against Holmen, 11-5, in five innings.

Robbie Cooper earned the win for Post 77 against Sparta as he threw four innings. Andy Davis went 3-for-4 with two triples and a home run for three RBIs. Jake McIlquham went 2-for-3 with a triple and a home run and Lance Clark went 2-for-2.

McIlquham pitched Post 77 to the win against Hudson, throwing two innings of one hit baseball. Brett Vavra went 3-for-3 with a RBI in the game.

Teddy Longbella, Clark and Davis each had three RBIs in the win against Holmen. Tyler Kinderman threw the complete game victory, striking out five and walking one.

Davis knocked in four runs and pitched Post 77 to the win against Prairie du Chien. Davis threw the complete game with nine strikeouts and no walks. He had a double and a triple at the plate.
