EAU CLAIRE — Norma Isabelle Langworthy, 88, of Altoona, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital on Thursday, June 19, 2008.
Norma was born Dec. 2, 1919, in the town of Anson to Ray and Mary (Johnson) Douglas. Norma married Howard on Jan. 2, 1940. Norma retired as a cook at UW-EC in 1962.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and the many summers with friends at the campground in Chetek. She liked going for lunch and bringing home the leftovers. She had a sweet tooth and loved her chocolate. She always talked of not wanting to live to be 90, or to end up in a nursing home. Her wish came true, she died peacefully.
Norma was a lifetime member of Lake Street United Methodist Church. The church was her passion, she so enjoyed Circle and especially the “Over 80’s luncheon” each year. The past few years the radio service was her church.
Norma is survived by: her children, June (Arley) Engel of Chippewa Falls, Sharon (Dick) Shea of Altoona and Alan Langworthy of Black River Falls; six grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) Engel, Terri Jasper, Troy (Michelle Bassett) Shea, Angela Shea, Sara Langworthy and Randy Langworthy; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Jasper, Ashley Engel, Alex Engel, Madelyn Shea and Adalyn Gardner; a sister Carol deWitt of Chippewa Falls; brother-in-law Tony deWitt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: two children, Randall and infant son Douglas; parents Ray and Mary; brother Clayton Douglas, and sister Mildred Langworthy.
Norma will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23 at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street, Eau Claire with Pastor Cathy L. Hamline officiating.
