The garden of Judi and Glen Robison is quite a work in progress.
It seems they’re always undertaking a new project — from Judi’s “potting shed” in the back, to a relatively new pergola near the house.
But that’s what they love best about gardening — spawning and implementing new ideas.
In the 20 years they’ve lived there together, they’ve accumulated hundreds of plant species, from lilies, sedum, false indigo, dianthus, hostas, columbine, roses, coneflower, heuchera, peonies and everything in between. The landscape boasts plants and accents acquired through family and friends.
They love it because, “There’s always room for more to grow,” Judi said with a laugh.
Judi has found a place for everything — especially her lovely collection of hostas.
“I probably have nearly 100 species of hosta,” she said.
Out back is a special place Judi created just for work she does as owner of Fairy in the Garden. The business specializes in garden maintenance, custom pots and garden design.
On and old piece of wood from a farm of her friends’ parents, she painted, “The Potting Shed 2004.” She and Glen used 10 gallons of paint to color the inside of the building pink — a color her four young granddaughters love.
“But my grandson, he’s 7, and he’s not too keen on all the pink!” Judi laughed.
A family friend, Larry Bradford, made the pergola and several of the arbors which direct guests around the garden.
Judi encourages people interested in gardening to join various local groups. She’s become a certified master gardener and a member of the Wisconsin Regional Lily Society and the Northern Wisconsin Hosta Society.
“When you’re getting started gardening can be expensive and overwhelming,” Judi said, noting she often shares plants with family and friends.
“I’ve also met a lot of nice people through those organizations,” she said. “Gardening is just a fun thing.”
