The Chippewa Falls Senior High School English Department is pleased to announce its English Students of the Month for April.
Freshman Leigh Drogemuller, the daughter of Julie Vanbeek and Peter Drogemuller, was selected by her English teacher Pam Bowe.
“I have had the pleasure of having Leigh as a student all year this year,” Bowe said. “She has consistently demonstrated an exemplary ability in English and a sense of maturity few ninth graders have. She also has a quiet and fun sense of humor that makes her just a down right pleasant person.
“Recently, during a class discussion about the book ‘Of Mice and Men,’ Leigh brought up some points of comparison that amazed me because of their depth and their insight. In addition, Leigh’s work is full of excellent examples of quality work. I appreciate having had this opportunity to have Leigh in my class.”
Leigh’s interests include cross-country, soccer, and harmonics. Dancing at the Academy of Dance is another of her passions.
Leigh plans to attend a four-year college. She is undecided about her major. She would like to enter the Peace Corps upon completion of her degree.
Freshman Teagen Warrick, the son of John and Laura Warrick, was selected by his English teacher Greg Adams.
“Curiosity goes a long way toward student achievement,” Adams said. “Those students who possess a natural desire to explore why things are the way they are tend to excel. Teagen is curious.
“In our English 9 class we have tackled some tough topics and dug deeply into everything from Greek mythology to Shakespeare to the classic tragic themes that drive the ‘Star Wars’ movies. Teagen is always eager to find the adventure in whatever we’re studying.
“I’m also impressed with his love for a great story. We’ve done two independent reading projects in my class, and instead of indiscriminately grabbing a book off the library shelf, Teagen sought out two classic adventure novels: ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Treasure Island.’
“Teagen’s desire to learn and his wide smile are both contagious. And one more thing…Teagen is a ‘Silent Ball’ master!”
Teagen’s interests include playing basketball, tennis and varsity soccer. He plays on the Chippewa Strikers soccer team during the summer. Teagen enjoys playing percussion in band and playing guitar. In his leisure time Teagen likes to hang out with friends.
Teagen is undecided about which college to attend. His dream is to play professional soccer or become an astronomer.
Junior Michelle Conlon, the daughter of Bill and Terri Conlon, was selected by her English teacher, Lisa Crocker.
“Michelle has been my student this semester in British literature,” Crocker said. “The high quality of Michelle’s work sets her apart. She consistently offers thoughtful observations and analysis of literature such as Orwell’s ‘1984.’
“In addition, Michelle is an excellent writer. Her writing is insightful and creative. I look forward to everything she writes, from simple novel responses to short stories to poems. Michelle is a pleasure to have in class, and deserves to be English student of the month.”
Michelle is a member of Athena. Her interests include playing violin, reading, writing stories and drawing.
After graduation, Michelle plans to attend UW-Eau Claire and major in chemistry or biochemistry.
