An air quality advisory for fine particle pollution has been broadened to all Wisconsin counties and has been extended by the state Department of Natural Resources through noon Sunday.
The advisory is for fine particles that come mostly from combustion sources such as power plants, factories, vehicle exhaust and wood fires.
Most affected by the advisory are people with heart or lung disease, asthma, older adults and children. People in these groups are advised to reschedule or cut back on strenuous activities. People with heart disease and lung diseases such as asthma and bronchitis should pay close attention to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and discomfort when taking a breath, and consult with their physicians if they have concerns or are experiencing symptoms.
Fine particle pollution works its way deep into the lungs and cannot be easily exhaled. People at risk are particularly vulnerable after several days of high particle pollution.
People are also asked to reduce driving when possible, postpone activities that use small gasoline and diesel engines, conserve electricity and minimize outdoor wood fires.
