Division 2 wrestling: Three Blackhawks head to state

The Blackhawks will send three of its four wrestlers to the state tournament that starts Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Luke Nayes, Andy Marquardt and Zach Borofka all finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes.
Nayes reached the finals at 135 pounds after a major decision and a pin. Nayes then lost by a major decision to Ellsworth’s Hayden Hauschildt. He rebounded to pin Amery’s Jared Nelson in the second place match in 3 minutes, 40 seconds. Nayes goes into the state tournament with a 38-4 record.
Borofka clinched second place with an 8-5 overtime decision against West Salem/Bangor’s Steve Stark. His only loss was in the first place match to Tomahawk’s Nick Hagar by major decision. He has a 35-6 record after Saturday.
Andy Marquardt lost in the semifinals and fought his way back for a second place finish. he dropped a 9-5 decision to Joe Raygor in the semifinals, but he came back to eventually win a 7-5 decision in overtime against Ellsworth’s Jordon Zimmer. Marquardt is 34-4.
The surprise for Bloomer was 103-pounder Jordan Poirier. Poirier suffered his second and third losses of the season and was eliminated in the consolation semifinals.
He lost a 4-3 decision in the semifinals to Ellsworth’s Sam Huppert and then lost 11-9 to Somerset’s Elliot Bell to get eliminated.
Stanley-Boyd/Thorp’s pair of sectional entrants also did not fare well, either. Alan Solie was eliminated in the quarterfinals while Dustin Wozniak placed fourth.
Wozniak lost a 5-2 decision in the third place match to Melrose-Mindoro/G.E.T.’s Frank Dobbs to be eliminated.
