Swimming: Chi-Hi wades through Medford

It wasn’t pretty — for Medford.

The Chi-Hi boys swimming team coasted to 97-58 victory over the Raiders in nonconference action Tuesday from the Chippewa Falls Middle School.

“The boys did swim very well,” Chi-Hi coach Tina Parker said. “I am pleased with the effort and how things turned out.”

The Cardinals took first place in all but three of the 11 events. They finished with the top two times on six occasions.

The relay teams had the most success, winning three of the four events.

Individually, five different athletes notched first place finishes, led by David Salm, who won the 500-yard freestyle as well as the 200 individual medley.

Tim Cutler (200 freestyle), Ross Brown (50 freestyle), Paul Schaus (100 butterfly) and Kyle Howard (100 freestyle) all went home with the top times in their respective events.

The Cardinals will be in action again at Middleton this weekend before traveling to Hudson Jan. 17 for a Big Rivers Conference meet.
