Twenty years ago, Diane Riley didn’t envision herself working for the U.S. Post Office, let alone that she would be the postmaster in Chippewa Falls.
But that’s exactly what happened last week.
“It’s an honor to come to Chippewa Falls,” she said.
Riley, of Cadott, was working in real estate in 1987, when a co-worker asked her to take a postal exam with him. Riley decided to go along.
“I never even thought about the post office,” she said.
But she passed the test with flying colors, and got called to see if she wanted a job.
In 1988, Riley began working as a clerk in Rice Lake.
She has performed various postal jobs, and she has served as the postmaster in Cadott and, most recently, Rice Lake.
The Chippewa Falls Post Office will pose a bit more of a challenge than Rice Lake, Riley said.
“Chippewa Falls is growing rapidly,” she said.
It has more employees and more city routes, and serves a larger population than Rice Lake.
Riley said everyone she’s met in Chippewa Falls has been very kind.
“I’m happy to stay here and excited about making Chippewa Falls my career,” she said.
