Celiac support group picnic planned in Bloomer

Special to the Herald - The next gathering of the celiac sprue support group will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16. A potluck picnic will be held in the gazebo just north of the Maplewood Nursing Home at 1501 Thompson St., Bloomer. The closest parking will be in the nursing home parking area.

Grilled chicken breast sandwiches, beverages, plates and silverware will be provided. Bring a gluten-free dish to pass along with the recipe. Copies of the recipes will be made that evening for those who would like them.

Watch a video of a news show about celiac disease done by Katie Couric. Please RSVP to Susan Block, Registered Dietitian, at 568-6167 before July 12 if you are able to attend, to ensure there is adequate food ordered.

People with celiac disease must avoid foods that contain gluten, the storage form of protein found in wheat, rye and barley. The support group was established to assist those diagnosed with celiac sprue in making the right choices and cooping with their new way of life. The celiac sprue group continues to grow and anyone with celiac disease is invited to attend the meetings at no charge.
