Special to the Herald - During the summer of 2007, the Heyde Center for the Arts in Chippewa Falls will offer to children between the ages of 2 and 8 a series of free, 45-minute presentations by area artists and performers who will share their love of an instrument, a style of music, dance, and other types of artistic and/or cultural activity.
Many studies show that introducing children to the arts at an early age helps them in all aspects of their lives. The Chill on the Hill program is part of a wider collaboration called Discovering the Mysteries of Chippewa Falls with the CF Library and CFMIT, and is supported in part by a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.
The presentations are 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays. The first presentation is on June 12, by Jerry Naiberg on the tuba. For more information contact Deb Johnson at (715) 726-9000.
Soprano Lucy Sirianni
A native of St. Paul, Minn., 18-year-old soprano Lucy Sirianni will perform a program of arias and classical songs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 8. Lucy has studied voice privately for six years while being homeschooled and studying part-time at the University of Minnesota through their program for advanced high school students. Admission is $5 per person, those under 5 free.
Shirley Valentine
“Shirley Valentine” is a comedic monologue by a 42-year-old woman who has lost her hope and self-confidence, and is reduced to talking to the wall as she prepares her husband’s dinner. She goes to Greece with a friend who has won a trip — and is transformed.
“Shirley Valentine” is for every woman who has ever wanted to burn her potholders, and for the man who lives with her. It shows at the Heyde Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 and a 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 17. Directed by Mary Burkett.
Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for students, or $30 for a family of four (some adult language).
