Prep roundup: Chi-Hi's swim team falls to Hudson

Chippewa Falls’ swimming team was handed its first loss this season in the Big Rivers Conference, losing to Hudson, 86-84.
The Cardinals entered the meet tied for first in the BRC with Eau Claire Memorial. Chi-Hi has the Old Abes left on its BRC slate and should the Cardinals win, it will create a three-way tie for the league title.
Boys hockey
Chi-Hi 5, EC North 0
At Chippewa Falls, Chi-Hi’s Jake Anderson scored two goals and an assist in the Cardinals shutout of Eau Claire North in Big Rivers play.
Pat Moran made 16 saves in net to earn the shutout.
Girls hockey
Chi-Hi/McDonell 4, Fusion 2
At New Richmond, Chippewa Falls/McDonell knocked off the top-rated team in the region with the victory.
Mikayla Hogan’s pair of third period goals proved to be the difference in the contest, as it broke a 2-2 tie.
Girls basketball
Gilman 42, Fall Creek 36
At Gilman, the Pirates held off a monstrous rally by the visiting Crickets to hang onto a West Cloverbelt victory.
Fall Creek was down 28-14 going into the fourth quarter, then hit its stride. Nicole Johnson had 18 to lead Gilman.
Owen-Withee 43, Thorp 34
At Thorp, the Blackhawks used fast starts in the first and third quarters in the East Cloverbelt win over the Cardinals.
Lindy Bergman led Thorp with 10 points.
Stanley-Boyd 52, Colby 31
At Stanley, the Orioles jumped out to an early lead over the Hornets and didn’t look back in the East Cloverbelt contest.
Karla Thorpe scored a season-high 17 points followed by Holly Mertens with 13.
Eau Claire Regis 59, Cadott 46
At Cadott, the Hornets were outscored 14-7 in the second quarter by the Ramblers in the West Cloverbelt loss.
Cody VanDenHeuvel led Cadott with 19 points, including going 10-for-10 at the free throw line, followed by Brook Romanowski with 14 points. Romanowski had seven rebounds and VanDenHeuvel added six.
Altoona 67, McDonell 42
At Altoona, the Railroaders blitzed the Macks with 24 points in the third quarter en route to the West Cloverbelt victory.
McDonell was down seven points at halftime only to get outscored 24-9 in the third quarter.
Nikki Hoepner scored 11 points to lead the Macks.
