Sarah Normand, a student at Chi-Hi, selected Chi-Hi math teacher Mike Nerbovig as her most influential educator. Her parents are Bill and Julie Normand.
“Mr. Nerbovig’s teaching style is wonderful,” Sarah said. “I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is that he does, but he makes learning the complex formulas and theories of calculus far easier than I would have thought possible.”
“From her depth of understanding to her thoroughness on exams and homework, Sarah is easily the best mathematics student that I have this year,” Nerbovig said. “She has achieved comparable success in all her endeavors while displaying humility, strength of character, and a courteous demeanor that has deepened my admiration for this outstanding student.”
Sarah plans to continue her education at either the College of Saint Benedicts or at Gustavus Adolphus College. She plans to major in chemistry and pre-pharmacy and minor in music.
Her activities, special interests and awards include involvement in orchestra (concert master, lettered three years, and being named music Student of the Month in October 2005), teaching string instrument lessons in the Voyagers program, member of the musical pit for “West Side Story,” dance team (was captain and lettered two years), track and field team (lettered three years) and named to academic all-conference.
